This release by Kenny Knight pairs two mixes, each taking a slightly different route to the same destination. “The Trip (Main Mix)” opens with Roland 909 drums doing the heavy lifting while a Moog bass line locks in underneath. Phased keys and scattered synth chords fill the space around them. A spoken word vocal announces departure, and then Knight lets a synth lead carry the track to its close. It is peak- time house music with disco in its lineage and sweat on its mind.
“The Trip (Kenny’s Space Sax Mix)” slows the urgency just enough to let the atmosphere breathe. Dubby, delay- heavy keys and synth strings float over a steady four-on-the-floor foundation. Knight’s saxophone floats in and out with tape delay applied generously, pulling the whole thing outward. Spoken word returns alongside echoed vocal hits, deepening the sense that this version is headed somewhere further out.
